Advice for (Aspiring) VCs on Finding VC Roles
January 2025
As someone looking to join another fund to support (AI) diligence and its portfolio companies on growth strategy, I’ve been looking for opportunities using a combination of job boards, newsletters, networks, educational programs, and conferences. I’m not affiliated with any of these; I’m only sharing what’s been helpful for me.
Like myself, I’ll assume you’re also done with school and are looking for a way to break in; if that’s not the case, I share a few resources at the end of the post.
Job Boards and Newsletters
Early-career VC Roles: Uprising Unicorns and The Early VC Job Board
8 job boards, including John Gannon’s job board
Nicole DeTommaso posts daily (if not more often) on LinkedIn and shares a weekly newsletter with tips and VC roles
Ali Rhode’s (weekly) newsletter
InnovatorsRooms for Junior, Senior, and international roles
Break into VC newsletter, which includes international roles
But… it's all about the network! Here’s how to build/grow it.
Networking Opportunities
Slack communities to join to expand your network, such as those Nicole DeTommaso shares
Programs to Join to Learn More about VC, such as Natalie Neptune’s list of 30+ VC fellowships. I shared about the Venture Partners Fellowship in the comments, from which I've learned so much!
Conferences to Meet VCs, such as:
(free, virtual) Early-stage Virtual Conference
(free) TechWeeks, such as NY, SF, and LA – and others
FounderX – hosted by the Founder Institute, where I'm a mentor
I share more advice on where to meet VCs here.
Consider following VCs on LinkedIn as they will post roles at their funds and share others from the community.
Here are Adithya’s recommendations on whom to start following.
LinkedIn will also then recommend VCs for you to follow.
Opportunities While at School
For those in school (undergraduate, graduate, or MBA), don’t forget to take advantage of any on-campus resources and consider VC roles hiring interns and fellows, including:
Ivelina Dineva’s list of 150 VC fellowships
Positions at a university tech transfer office, such as the one at UCLA
I hope this helps you land your next role! Good luck!
